Now I’m showing numerous projects from the last few years – a thorough cleaning is often enough, often the ‚lucky hands‘ of the previous owner have fabricated a total loss. The usual damage caused by battery acid, burst or leaking capacitors, on the other hand, is easier to repair.
AMIGA 600
First the Amiga 600 from the early 90s. Initially mocked and unloved, today it is experiencing a revival and is now a sought-after classic. Luckily I got a halfway working model. The Amiga still ran unstable. After thorough cleaning and a new set of capacitors, everything runs like it did on the first day.
APPLE ][ Europlus
One of my absolute favorites is this Apple ][ Europlus from 1981. In fact, the case once served as a home for a family of mice; accordingly, the cleaning process was quite extensive. Equipped with a memory expansion from 48 to 64 kilobytes, a Microsoft CP/M Softcard, a Super-Serial-Card, and a disk card, it’s now possible to explore the software from the „Computer Stone Age.“ The software itself can be easily transferred using an iPhone and the cassette output of the Apple.
IBM 5160

Delicious ! The year is 1984. The IBM 6150 is the personal computer par excellence and of course highly compatible. Robust and easy to repair, my models only show defective power supplies or burst capacitors. Even the huge MfM hard drives work perfectly again after a (low-level) formatting.
ITT 2020

The ITT 2020 just an Apple ][ clone‘ ? Far from it, because it is the first official Apple ][ for the European market. ITT used parts from the Apple parts warehouse. The manufacturer of the keyboard was Datanetics- not only is it horrible to repair, it’s insanely expensive and sought after. The first Apple II came with exactly this Datanetics keyboard. Unfortunately, due to some adjustments, the ITT2020 is not fully compatible with the Apple II. On the other hand, there are numerous qualitative defects, such as poor IC sockets. A user from the very beginning told me how he sometimes had to press the IC firmly again in the new ITT2020 because it slipped out of the socket.
